Maui: One Year Later 08/09/2024

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the catastrophic wildfires took place on Maui. So much has happened in that time, and we wanted to take a moment to pause, reflect and honor all those impacted by the painful events.

It was incredibly humbling to work alongside Maui Food Bank and so many other partners and community members during the response efforts. In disasters, necessity and a shared sense of service bring people together in unprecedented ways.

At Hawai‘i Foodbank, we get to see the best of humanity, people helping people through some of our darkest times. Through blue skies and gray, our community’s aloha always shines through.

Maui: One Year Later The Maui wildfires taught us many lessons, and while we continue on a challenging journey to recovery, the wildfire response has strengthened partnerships that will bring long-term change.

Last Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of Waikiki SPAM JAM. Leading up to this year’s event, our friends at the SJ foundation and Alaska Airlines came together to offer a special $35,000 SPAM JAM® Match Opportunity. We are excited to announce we exceeded the double match goal.

Collectively, this support will help provide food for nearly 260,000 meals! 🍽

SPAM JAM® was a special evening, and our team and volunteers had such a good time converging with the community along Kalākaua Avenue (and a special mahalo to Kamea Hadar for sharing space with us!). It’s really become a cultural tradition over the last couple of decades, and it reminds us of our community’s creative, collaborative and versatile spirit — the same spirit we see every day at Hawai‘i Foodbank.

🧡 It never ceases to amaze us, the variety of ways in which our community converges around the shared goal of nourishing our ‘ohana. From all of us at Hawai‘i Foodbank — mahalo.
