Our department is dedicated to the preparation of caring, competent and qualified teachers who act in the best interests of the students they serve.
Health and Physical Education preservice teachers had the valuable experience volunteering with the Oak Grove Walk-a-Thon last week. Kernel Cobb and Timber made guest experiences and helped cheer on the students.
The Education Department has a new class EDUC 110 Called to Teach. Last week we had awesome speakers from Fargo Public Schools Human Capital - Dr. Jeff McCanna, Dr. Jennifer Fremstad, and Karmen Riley.
We also ventured on a field trip to DGF Middle/High School with Mr. Joe O'Keefe. Students got a tour, worked with students one-on-one, met with teachers, and asked Mr. O'Keefe questions about the profession of education and interviewing.
Thank you FPS and DGF! We appreciate these valuable community connections!
Busy couple of weeks for our PED 251 health and physical education students!
HPE students got to hang with Explorer Academy (with Nate Hendrickson) and folks at TNT. So many valuable experiences. Way to go, Mr. Carlson.
We are anxious to see our amazing alumni at 10!!
-- Homecoming Week --
We are celebrating one of our awesome educators, Mrs. Jennifer Maras ('02). Jenny is a teacher in Morris, MN and won the national rural teacher of the year award in 2023. We are so thrilled to have her back on campus speaking to some of our classes, faculty, and dean. She will also be honored in the parade on Saturday.
Her speaking session this morning was titled "What does your rural postcard say?" She introduced us to the concept of the "rural spirit" and inspired our students with her overflowing sense of passion and creativity for teaching and education. It was remarkable.
Come and meet her on Saturday morning at our Education Department open house 10-11 (2nd floor, Old Main!).
We are thrilled to announce that the Education Department Newsletter, Concordia + Connection, dropped yesterday!

🌽 New Educator 'Signing Day' at Concordia! 🌽
We are excited to officially welcome our newly accepted future educators to the Education Program at Concordia!
On Tuesday, September 10th, the Education Department hosted a special signing ceremony for our preservice educators. These students, who are majoring in education, have completed the necessary steps, including successfully passing ED 212, to be formally accepted into the program. Their dedication to shaping the future of learning and making a positive impact on the world is truly inspiring.
We were honored to have special guests join us for the ceremony: President Dr. Colin Irvine, along with DGF Administrators Mr. Wayne LePard and Mr. Joe O'Keefe, our designated school partners.

As a third-generation Cobber, Elizabeth Naugle ’25 has found family at Concordia in her volleyball team and English education cohort.
“My favorite aspect of the learning experience here is that the faculty care about you. They are very understanding and empathetic. They only want what’s best for you and they want you to succeed, which is something that my friends don’t get at bigger universities.”
