The SCRC is the principal repository for and steward of the Temple University Libraries’ rare books, manuscripts, archives and University records.
At the SCRC we collect, preserve, and make accessible primary resources and rare or unique materials, to stimulate, enrich, and support research, teaching, learning, and administration at Temple University. We make these resources available to a broad constituency as part of the University's engagement with the larger community of scholars and independent researchers.
Today we are welcoming back our copy of volume one of the first edition of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which was on display at the National Constitution Center in their Civil War and Reconstruction exhibit.
Congratulations to all the new Temple Graduates!

"Rights + Arts: Some Philadelphia Urban History"
As part of the Designing Libraries for the 21st Century conference to be held at Temple November 6-8, the SCRC is hosting a pop-up exhibit. All are invited.
Among the many aspects of Philadelphia history documented in the Special Collections Research Center are the rich arts traditions in the city and this northern city’s complicated work for Civil Rights. This pop-up exhibit features content from several collections in the SCRC’s Urban Archives documenting the fight for the desegregation of Girard College and the work and performances of arts organizations in the city—many of which also have a social justice focus.
Founded by the Temple University History Department in 1967 to provide primary source materials for its graduate students, the Urban Archives documents the social, economic, political, and physical development of the greater Philadelphia region throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Additional SCRC collections supporting research into the history of Philadelphia have been added through the SCRC’s other collecting work, including Philadelphia Dance and the Philadelphia Jewish Archives.
