Today, hundreds of people joined us in the Witherspoon Theatre for a screening of “36 Seconds: Portrait of a Hate Crime.” The documentary tells the harrowing story of Feb. 10, 2015, when three members of the Wolfpack — Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha — were murdered in their Chapel Hill apartment complex. After the film screening, there was a panel discussion with faculty from NC State, a member of the Islamic Association of Raleigh and production staff from the film to discuss the production of the film and how we all can be an advocate to combat hate crime.
Join us and our partners on Sunday for a Black History Month student-led conversation. This conversation will allow folks to share their experiences as students and as student-athletes of color and how they have found rest, community and wellness to thrive at NC State.
Join us and the next week on Thursday (Feb. 8) for Black Transfigurations. Multimedia artist and engineer Mikael Owunna will present works from his artistic practice that transfigure Black bodies into vessels of eternal life. After his presentation, Mikael will participate in a Q&A.
