Thank you to everyone who supported the Department of Sociology and Anthropology Student Ambassadors Feed the Pack Donation drive last week! We truly appreciate all of the 206 pounds worth of donations! These donations will help the Pack Pantry aid students at NC State who experience food insecurity. We want to give a special shout out to our partners at Target who showed up to support the event and donated gift cards for the Donation Drive Raffle! We also want to thank our furry friend, Deliah the therapy dog, for putting a smile on everyone's face! Congratulations to the winners of our raffles and thank you to the Student Ambassadors who volunteered for the event and especially the Co Assistant Director Madison Thomas who planned the event!

Wesley Parish is graduating this Spring with his Master of Arts in Anthropology. His thesis is titled: "Portable X-ray Floresence and Clay: An Examination of the Effectiveness of Using pXRF for Archaelogical Ceramic Clay Sourcing Studies." Wesley is very involved in our Department, recently helping with our recruitment events in March. Last year, he was awarded 2nd place at the Graduate Student Research Symposium for his work. Wesley, we are so proud of everything you have accomplished, and can't wait to see what's next! Thank you!

Today we are recognizing Malia Hamilton for Graduate Student Appreciation Week. Malian is a 4th year Ph.D. Student in Sociology. Malia successfully defended her thesis, "Racialized Transactionslism: The Racial Politics of Giving and Receiving in the Black Panther Party's Food Distribution Work" and will be graduating this Spring with her Master's of Science. Malia is also a Teaching Assistant and serves as secretary of the Sociology and Anthropology Student Government Association. She will continue here at NC State in her pursuit of a Ph.D. Thank you Malia!

We are celebrating Graduate Student Appreciation Week by highlighting our graduating students in Sociology and Anthropology. Sarah Dixon is a 2nd year Anthropology student graduating with her Masters of Arts this Spring! Her Capstone project is entitled "The Extension of the Physical Body;Embodiment in Virtual Reality through Phantom Sense." Sarah recently attended the Society for Applied Anthropology Conference to present her work, and has been.a key part in involving Anthropology into tbe Department's Student Government Association as co-President. Her efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are proud of what she has accomplished here at NC State. Thank you, Sarah for all you do!
April 1-5 2024, we recognize the many contributions our NC State graduate and professional students make to research, teaching our state and beyond. The week seeks to emphasize the contributions, impact, and value of graduate and professional students on campuses throughout the United States.
