We are a residential school in Kenya empowering children to lead their communities out of poverty. January 2016, we added another class.
Canopy Life Academy prepares children in Kenya to create a better future for themselves and their communities. We do this through Christ-centered mentoring, quality education and environments that spark the imagination. We are a boarding school east of Nairobi Kenya that provides students with the space, resources, skills, opportunities and freedom to develop ideas that are New and Strong for thei
We couldn't have seen these things come to pass without YOU. Together, through the unwavering support of donors and sponsors, the dedication of our staff and students, and the guidance of our boards, we are crafting a remarkable narrative of transformation...
Because of you, our students are being empowered to become godly, innovative leaders: agents of this transformation for their communities. And there's so much GROWTH on the horizon!
There's a growing need at Canopy Life for our current 7th grade students to remain at Canopy Life through their high school years (because what we are doing is working!) and we want to meet that need. We see the many barriers to a quality education (and a safe place to call home) students face in Kenya. Imagine the day when there are 200 students on our campus...that's 200 students who know -๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐
๐๐๐๐ - that their physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being matters. That's our vision for the future of Canopy Life, and it's not too far away.
Our goal for 2024-2025 is to double our student population and expand our campus to include high school services. It's a $1.48 Million dollar project (and we're getting closer to meeting that goal -we have $287k left to go)!
This campaign is the largest building project we've ever taken on and its launch is extremely timely in order to meet the growing need for high school classes for our students. You can read more about Building Brave in this year's annual report.

โจOur Annual Report for 2023 has arrived, and WHOA! What a yearโจ
"Reflecting on the journey of 2023, one phrase resonates profoundly: โPreparation before Acceleration.โ It was a year akin to stretching a rubber band to its fullest extent, poised to unleash its energy, or the quiet hum of engines before a rocket propels into the sky. Every moment was dedicated to strategic groundwork, paving the way for a season of extraordinary productivity and growth in 2024-2025." - Christi Gordy, Founder
That growth she mentioned represents our Building Brave Capital Campaign to fund the expansion of our campus in Kenya to include high school services and double our student population. How incredibly humbling, inspiring, and precious it is to be entrusted with these sweet souls. We know they belong to our Heavenly Father, and He has been so gracious to give us the opportunity to empower them to become leaders who can transform the social, spiritual, and economic systems in Kenya. May we steward that gift well!
Canopy Life is a safe, nurturing Home and School because of this community who continues to come together to help create a brave and better future for our students.
We are entering a new season at Canopy Life... In order to keep our students all the way through High School, we have to build. We see the many barriers to a quality education (and a safe place to call home) students face in Kenya, and we want to do what we can to change this narrative for our students.
So, our goal is to double our student population. The thing about boarding schools is that our academic AND residential buildings must grow simultaneously in order to accommodate this growth. We are adding 2 residential buildings, an academic facility, a soccer field, and renovating some of our current spaces. It's a 1.48 Million dollar project (and we're getting closer to meeting that goal -we've $289k left to go)!

We're getting closer and closer to our goal of $1.48 Million! We're over 80% there, with only $289k left to raise to meet that goal.
Why are we building? While our 4th-9th grade students are educated on-property by Canopy Life faculty, our high school students (10th-12th) attend local private schools. ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น. In order to keep our current students on our campus through their high school years, we need to expand our campus.
Our Building Brave Capacity Campaign is going to transform our campus into an even better place for our students to learn, grow, and flourish, and the best part...we will be able to double our student population so more Kenyan students can benefit from Canopy Life Academy.
We are building a safe home for our students - where they can continue to learn in a safe environment, knowing without question that their mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being matters.

๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐จ ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฃ a child knows they matter? That their opinion matters?
What happens whey they feel safe? When they know they are loved because a counselor takes the time to walk beside them while they are going through a hard season?

In light of the flooding throughout East Africa, we wanted to update our community on the status of the Canopy Life family in Kenya. Broadly speaking, Kenya is facing many road closures and significant flooding. Our campus and the communities of our students and staff are definitely feeling the impact of the weather and travel issues (and it's still raining), but it's been manageable so far. We are grateful for this and continue to monitor the situation closely. Our staff in Kenya has connected with every student and with each other, and all are well!
The Ministry of Education has taken necessary precautions and has delayed the start of Term 2 so students and their families can travel safely as they return to school. We are grateful for their commitment to the safety of students throughout Kenya.
You may have seen news coverage of communities that have been significantly impacted. There are places in Nairobi, and especially in rural Kenya, where structures were not built to withstand the elements and this amount of rain, causing roads to get washed out and dams to collapse. Our hearts are heavy for those who are displaced or mourning the loss of their loved ones, and we are grateful these are isolated circumstances. Thankfully, the communities where our students and staff call home are not seeing these kinds of life-altering situations.
As we eagerly await the return of our students to the Canopy Life campus, our team in Kenya is keeping us updated on a daily basis to ensure the students have a smooth transition back to school as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support in empowering our students to become the leaders who will lead, love, and empower their communities towards a better future. We are grateful for you!
๐ฑAt Canopy Life, every day is Earth Day! ๐ฑ๐ From tending to veggies around campus to nurturing their hydroponic garden, our students are cultivating more than just crops; theyโre growing invaluable life skills in agriculture and sustainable farming. Hereโs to a bright (and green) future for these world changers!
May Jesusโ ultimate sacrifice fill your hearts with gratitude, joy, peace, and an eternal hope as you celebrate Easter with your family and friends this weekend!
โBut he was pierced for our transgressions;โจย ย ย ย he was crushed for our iniquities;โจupon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,โจย ย ย ย and with his wounds we are healed.โ -Isaiah 53:5
๐ฅฌ๐Look at these yummy vegetables! These were grown in Canopy Life's hydroponic garden, a Home Science project by our Class 8 students. The kids have been successful in growing Kale and Onions.
This is just one of the many ways our students help out around campus! Not only are they learning about sustainable farming methods, but they are also actively contributing to their "home" on campus.
Way to go, kids.
Last week, our students and staff came together to pray for and honor the amazing women of Canopy Life Academy on International Women's Day. The students presented them with cards they made!
These women are making a difference in the lives of these kids! We're so incredibly blessed to know them and walk alongside them as they continually invest in our student's futures and the future of Kenya.
Last month, Canopy Life sponsor and board member, Khari Manuel facilitated a vision board exercise for our students in Kenya...
To quote Khari, "In the journey of life, a strong vision acts as a compass, guiding us through the storms and challenges that come our way. A clear vision helps us define our goals, values, and aspirations. It gives us the clarity to make decisions that align with our true selves and brings fulfillment."
Many of the students put God at the center of their vision board. They dream of having strong families, adopting, living healthy lifestyles, and becoming entrepreneurs and business owners... with Jesus at the center of it all.
You see, Canopy Life exists to empower kids in Kenya to become godly, innovative leaders who start businesses and create the innovative solutions that will lead their communities of poverty...
To see our students' dreams aligning with that mission brings us SO. MUCH. JOY.

Happy Jamhuri Day to our friends in Kenya! We hope today is full of rest and celebration!
For our friends worldwide who might wonder, "What is Jamhuri Day?"...
Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on December 12th. Jamhuri is the Swahili word for "republic." The holiday officially marks Kenya becoming an independent country on December 12th, 1963, six months after gaining internal self-rule from the United Kingdom.
Because of your UNBELIEVABLE GENEROSITY, we exceeded our goal on Giving Tuesday. You helped us raise $25,170!
This is a BIG DEAL.
Because of you, our students will have new textbooks and uniforms.
Our entire campus will have healthy meals for a whole year.
Our teachers will have new equipment, supplies, and training to help them excel in the next school year.
Fun adventures await!
Thank you so much!
TODAY IS THE DAY! We are raising $23K for our programs in Kenya.

Letโs empower these students to become leaders and agents of transformation in Kenya!
TOMORROW is Giving Tuesday! This year, we are raising $23,000 to fund Canopy Life programs in Kenya. To give, visit canopylife.org/givingcatalog.
Here are a few ways you can directly impact the academic needs of our students on campus next year:
๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐: A gift of $50 will provide a student with the supplies needed for Arts & Crafts and Home & Science Projects.
๐ง๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด: Provide ongoing professional development for our teachers on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) being developed by the Ministry of Education in Kenya with a gift of $150.
๐ง๐ฒ๐
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐: With the new curriculum being released in Kenya each year, we purchase new textbooks for the older class, which they pass on to other students the following year. $320 will provide a student at Canopy Life with the books needed for the school year.
A different approach to education sets Canopy Life apart from other schools in Kenya. We focus on giving our students the heart, home, mindset, and skills to solve problems, start businesses, and create innovative solutions that will lead their families and communities out of poverty.
Thank you for giving and believing our students can be those leaders!
