Welcome to the Kent State University Army ROTC (Golden Eagle Battalion) official page, where you will find the most recent news coverage, videos and photos highlighting our Cadets, cadre, and staff.
Congratulations to Cadet Haines (Kent State) for successfully completing Air Assault School this summer. His dedication and commitment to excellence has paid off and has shown great Leadership qualities for his peers and underclass students to emulate.
We are incredibly proud of our cadets from Youngstown and Kent for providing a Color Guard at the Folds of Honor Organization's Annual Concert and Golf Outing. Their Selfless Service, Loyalty, and Duty in volunteering and completing this mission exemplify the Army Values and their dedication to the Golden Eagle Battalion. Well done!
BEAT NAVY! Congrats to the Army Black Knights for winning the 123rd Army Navy Game and the FIRST Overtime in all 123 games!
For the 123rd time...GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!
Don't count on these (future) Lieutenants getting lost in the woods, especially after this week's land navigation training!

The Kent State Army ROTC, Kent State, and her community wish all Veterans and those currently serving. We're all greatful for your service and sacrifice!
We'd also like to thank Dr. N.J. Akbar for sharing his story and his encouraging remarks, as well as Kent State's own Baylee Sweitzer for her photography.
A special thank you to North 41 Crossfit for hosting the 1LT Ashley White Hero WOD! Several Cadets and others from the community represented the Program, the Kent community, and her enduring legacy during the workout.
North 41 CrossFit hosts a free Hero WOD every Sunday, and proceeds are donated to surviving families of fallen Servicemembers, and to date has donated $5,000!
Join us on Sunday October 30th @ 9:00AM for a very special Hero WOD, "White", honoring LT. Ashley White, who died while serving in Afghanistan during deployment operations. This is a free event open to the public, no membership required and there is no drop-in fee, however participants will be provided an opportunity to donate to th Special Operations Warrior Foundation which ensures complete post-secondary educational support and additional educational opportunities “cradle to career,” for eligible surviving children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and children of all Medal of Honor Recipients; and provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded, ill, and injured Special Operations Personnel — today and in the future. More info on this foundation and the North 41 CrossFit's Pledgeit page for SOWF below:

LT White was a native of Alliance, OH and a Kent State University graduate. She was killed during combat operations October 22, 2011 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan when the assault force she was supporting triggered an improvised explosive device. LT White was assigned to the 230th Brigade Support Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, North Carolina National Guard, Goldsboro, N.C., and served as a member of the Cultural Support Team attached to a Joint Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan.
Workout will begin at 9:30AM. As always, scaling options and modifications to the workout will be covered before the workout begins.

Fall FTX is secured!
When everyone else sleeps, the Golden Eagles own the night.
KSU, UMU, and YSU Cadets conducted Night Time Land Navigation and Patrol Base Operations before bedding down for the night... all in zero illumination.
"She was unafraid of being a woman and a warrior at the same time."
Today we remember 1LT Ashley White-Stumpf, who commissioned from the Kent State Army ROTC in 2009. 1LT White-Stumpf was killed 11 years ago today in 2011 in Afghanistan while serving on an elite Cultural Support Team.
The CSTs were comprised of exclusively women who could conduct operations without crossing cultural boundaries. 1LT White-Stumpf, and women like her, were the tip of the spear of eventually removing the barrier barring women from serving in combat.
You can see her memorial plaque in the Army ROTC office in Schwartz Center on campus and read more about her sacrifice in the National Museum of the US Army.

Golden Eagle Cadets from Kent State, Mount Union, and Youngstown State are officially on ground FOR 2022 Fall FTX, OP AKATSUKI! MSII&3s infilled to the AO via a CH-47 Chinook. Over the next 48 hrs Cadets will conduct squad operations and land navigation.
Kent State's Army and Air Force conducted a joint PT session today! Over 50 Cadets took part in the colloquial "Krug Workout," a program favorite established by our very own MSI Instructor Mr. Krug.
KSU and UMU Cadets conducted Patrol Base Operations this morning. Don't worry, they won't spend the night! However, in a week's time these Cadets will put these skills to use when they cubduct their Fall FTX... Stay tuned!
CDTs Reckart and Medina ran the Army 10 miler this past weekend in Washington DC... and ran into a familiar face! CPT Richardson served as Kent State's MSII Instructor during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Lead by CDT Rankin and CDT Johnson, the Kent State Army ROTC lead the way during this weekend's Homecoming Parade! Thank you to all who attended, cheered us on, and stood for the colors as they passed.
"We are not going for fame and we are not going for bravado. We are going for the single mom who dropped her kids off at elementary school on a Tuesday morning, and then 45 minutes later she jumped to her death out of a skyscraper. She wasn’t supposed to be in the fight. We’re supposed to fight; that’s why we’re going.” - Rob O'neill
With the exception of only several Cadets, nearly all of the Golden Eagle Battalion were not yet born, or were far too young to recall the events that transpired today 21 years ago. Still they choose to serve their country and stand guard so a single mother may drop her children off to school in peace.
"Frag out!" "Cover me while I move!" If you were at Allerton field this morning, our Cadets filled the air with these phrases! Cadets Klakos, Vanetta, Nunamaker, and Smith (in order of appearance) instructed Kent State Cadets on employment of hand grenades, individual movement techniques, and movement formations. While basic, these skills will definitely help everyone during tactical labs and FTX in the coming months.
Veteran and servicemember open house is tomorrow! Come meet other student veterans, faculty/ staff vets, members of the CAVS team, and check out the future plans for the new CAVS office in the KSC.
The Golden Eagles are back at it again! Today marked the start of regular PT with a two mile company run followed by some Hip Pocket TCCC training. Did you hear us on the Espalande?
Congratulations to our newly commissioned Second Lieutenant’s
Joint Field Training Exercise took place at Camp James A. Garfield this weekend to train and prepare MSIII Cadets for CST this summer.
JFTX Day one consisted of Land Navigation and Patrol Base Operations.
The Fallen Comrade table is steeped in symbolism and is featured to commemorate fallen, missing, or imprisoned U.S. military members. Each item at the table represents the place, emotions, and feelings reserved for those who did not come home.
We remember and honor 1LT Ashley White-Stumpf Golden Eagle Battalion Alumni, Soldier,
comrade, and friend whom paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and exemplified what it means to be a U.S. Army Officer throughout her career.
The Golden Eagle Battalion Military Ball 2022
Military Ball reminds us of where we came from and of those who came before us.
G.E.B Cadets looked sharp in their ASUs last Friday evening to partake in this formal dining-in tradition. A special thanks to COL Barnett, Retired LTC Reverend Zehnder, distinguished guests, and all who made completing this important tradition possible.
Congratulations to CDT Isaac for swearing in and contracting with the Golden Eagle Battalion today!
Today Golden Eagle Battalion Cadets participated in Lab that consisted of running through practical exercises of Patrol Base operations. The snow can’t stop us. 🦅
