TRIO Upward Bound

Last week, Upward Bounders took a trip to Millersville University! We spent our day touring the beautiful campus and learning about the area.

Afterwards, we visited the Miller’s Smorgasbord where we got to enjoy a large buffet! We are so proud of our Upward Bounders for being attentive, engaged, and ready to learn in every environment! ☀️

We had a great time during orientation last week. We laughed, learned some new names, bonded over similarities and helped each other while learning how to sculpt clay!

Upward Bound will be visiting Ben Franklin and Building 21 tomorrow to recruit 9th graders for our summer program!

Congratulations to the students and staff of the Summer 2023 Upward Bound program! We had a wonderful time at our Awards lunch yesterday where we reflected on our awesome summer together and recognized some of the outstanding accomplishments of our students.

We went on a college tour to Lincoln University of PA 🔶🔹 we learned about the history and culture of the first HBCU!

In English class, Upward Bounders are learning about reading and writing memoirs! So far, we have read a series of short memoirs that sparked delightful conversations and critical thinking.

Shout out to Mr. Mocha for making this class so enjoyable, and creating a space for engaging discussion!

From zome challenges for engineering week to this week’s biology anatomy with the dissection of spiny dogfish sharks, the Upward Bound students have so much under their belt already! There’s no better way to learn lifelong skills like communication, collaboration, and critical thinking than through hands-on science experiments! A big thank you to our wonderful science teacher this summer, Ms. Tsai, for curating all of the in-class activities and labs! We can’t wait for what’s to come for the rest of the summer 🏗️🦈🔬🧪🚀

Our first college visit of the Summer ☀️ We visited Rosemont College & Villanova University. Special thanks to the Center for Access, Success and Achievement (CASA) for speaking to our students at Villanova. Our students enjoyed their visit! 📚🔖

It's graduation season and we want to celebrate and honor Diane Jones, Upward Bound Alum, Class of '04, for earning a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Widener University!!!🎉

The .ccp community is overwhelmed with pride at Diane's wonderful accomplishment. ❤️

Diane was the first student to complete all four years of high school with the Upward Bound program at and now she is our first alum to earn her doctorate!

She graduated from William Penn High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University. She also earned a Master of Science in Family Practice Nursing, from Widener University. Diane worked as a Registered Nurse for Presbyterian Hospital for over 13 years and is now working as Nurse Practitioner at Matrix Medical Network.

Diane is such an important part of the UB community. Her presence as a student, and later as Tutor Counselor and Instructor for the program helped set a standard of excellence and commitment. She is part of the foundation of our program and we are so proud to have been a part of her journey.

Congratulations, Diane! You are an inspiration to students everywhere. ❤️
