I am honored to be highlighted by the seminary in their featuring profiles of Wesley Theological Seminary community members.
Meet Tom Pruski, RN, MAPS, DMin, a valued staff member and adjunct professor at Wesley Theological Seminary. Having earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2019, he directs the esteemed program Heal the Sick. When asked to reflect on the impact of his vocation at Wesley and his vision for this program, he shared his heartfelt sentiments.
“I worked to develop the Heal the Sick program with other staff at Wesley in 2013. It is part of the Community Engagement Institute at the seminary. As a registered nurse, I was trained and taught about ways to cure and treat patients. On my journey of faith, I have been inspired and led to find new ways of living and being which encompassed whole person health, healing, and wellness.
“The goal of this ministry is to help people find contemporary expressions of faith and health and integrate the two in their lives in real and practical ways. Our program at the seminary does this through various courses, a Health Minister Certificate, and a variety of partnerships. This ministry has changed my life. It has challenged me to live what I believe in my relationships and my community. This ministry has brought me and others I work with hope, support, and healing.”
Tom is driven by the question of, “how to become the hope and healing we want to see in the world today. This ministry has taught me to seek balance in life between family and work to care for myself, others, and the environment in new ways.” For more information on Heal the Sick or Wesley Seminary’s program for Faith Community Nursing go to: https://ow.ly/free50Q4lJe

Storytime with The Source Collaborative!
Gethsemane UMC sits on a rolling acreage in Capitol Heights, Maryland and has a rich legacy of strong faith, community involvement and exceptional leadership. The congregation has a dream to be a “higher vibration” in the community and intentionally began to build relationships beyond the church walls.
Community Day was born from an idea to merge the creation of a prayer labyrinth with a community listening session to hear the hopes and dreams of the neighborhood. The Source Collaborative process of community assessment was used to enhance collaborative work with county and community organizations…so one day, a Senior Assisted Living Facility to serve the neighborhood will replace the existing parsonage!
Make a difference in YOUR community: The Source Collaborative is NOW accepting registrations for the two-day in-person retreat for Clergy and Lay Leaders in November.

This Valentine’s Week 2023, we highlight Dr. Carla Works, Wesley Professor of New Testament, and her husband, Rev. Dr. Nick Works, WTS MDiv ’13, DMin ’20, Associate Director, Practice of Ministry and Mission.
Right from the beginning of Dr. Works’ tenure as a professor, she inspired students with her teaching. “When we were in college together, we had wonderful professors who cared deeply about their subjects and deeply for their students. They were the kind of professors whose lectures could transport you back in time as you imagined your own town being surrounded by the Assyrian army or as you considered a pregnant Mary travelling with Joseph and her relatives on a precarious journey to Bethlehem. History came alive, and we saw the biblical text differently.”
The Wesley community admires their faith, teaching, and service “Our education transformed our faith and changed the way we thought about Bible study, preaching, and teaching. Now, we have the privileged responsibility to train others for Christian ministry, to teach the Word in lively and challenging ways, and to walk with our students on their paths of discernment. We particularly cherish leading trips to the Holy Land and journeys to Greece and Turkey to walk in the footsteps of Paul and visit the cities of John’s Revelation.”
Dr. and Rev. Dr. Works expressed, “There is something sacred about treading where saints before have trod, knowing that same God is still calling and working among us, beckoning us to deeper communion with the divine, with one another, and with all God’s creation. Thanks be to God for allowing us to serve here in this community with all of you. May God’s grace and peace be with you.”
