Savasana, the co**se pose makes even more sense now. The scientists call Savasana an NSDR (Non-sleep-deep-rest) and found that a twenty minute NSDR greatly improves retention of information and learning. 💤
So for new or experienced yoga students working on basic asana forms or on refining the intermediate forms of asana, pranayama. Like an video replay of a key moment in a sports game, the motor control centre in the brain “replays “ the new skill as a new neural pathway. Firing it again and again to get it down and program it in to the software.
‘That means that if you managed to hold your first ever one leg crow balance for 1 second during the class, then you are repeating the action 20 times per second deep inside the brain during your savasana.’ 🕰️
But here’s the amazing thing, instead of a slow motion replay, it plays it faster. In fact it replays the action at 20 times normal speed. That means that if you managed to do your first ever one leg crow balance for 1 second during the class, then you are repeating the action 20 times per second deep inside the brain during savasana. No wonder we learn so quickly. The traditional yogis say that thought is quicker than action and energy is quicker than thought. so there it is. The intention to learn taps in to this faculty.
10 ways yoga can benefit a sportsperson
1. Mind-Body Awareness
Yoga creates an improved mind-body awareness and connection, refines sports people’s awareness of their technique and enables them to focus better. Yoga is effective in training and strengthening the mind for improved focus and endurance – “Mind over matter” so to speak.
2. Equanimity
Yoga assists us in being able to note a feeling in the body and then to let it go and move on – this equanimity is useful in sport when you lose your cool or become stressed, especially in very competitive sports situations.
3. Flow State
In yoga, we are able to train ourselves into a “flow state” of mind and body, which creates a heightened calm, aware and alert state where performance peaks. This state is essential for success in competitive sports and also for learning new skills.
4. Body Efficiency
Yoga structures the body in more efficient way for improved breathing and for setting up healthy movement patterns.
5. Recovery Aid
Yoga physically aids recovery after intense exercise.
6. Stress Reduction
Yoga also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces stress and speeds up recovery.
7. Improved Breathing
Yoga breathing exercises and breath awareness, help to improve breathing volume, control and efficiency.
8. Injury Prevention
Yoga can help to prevent injuries – maintaining a healthy range of movement in joints and balancing the body helps to prevent many overuse injuries. Keeping the body more agile through yoga is especially good for endurance athletes, who repeat actions and movement patterns extensively.
9. Improved Performance
A regular yoga practice can make you better balanced, more agile and more ambidextrous. This all improves sports performance.
10. Faster Reflexes
Yoga speeds up your reflexes, which is invaluable in sport.

“After discovering Yoga about 3 years ago my life has transformed radically in self- acceptance, unconditional love and well- being. In October 2022, I decided to stop studying psycology in Berlin to pursue this deep calling to conciousness and assisting others on their Yogic path of freedom and equainimity. I love sharing a creative, heated or gentle asana practice with others, while still having a strong focus on a meditative state, self connection and life philosophy. Aiding others on their individual path to love and awareness is my life’s purpose. I am deeply motivated and open minded person, adaptable to criticism or change.”

“Anyone, who applies the tools and techniques of yoga science has the ability to observe and experience the reality of their spiritual essence.” - Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa
Jim’s teaching is informed by a medical and scientifically approach to yoga. The synthesis of ancient traditions with contemporary thinking and research-based science continues to inspire his approach to yoga and meditation. This quality threads through our team of teachers.
Spiritual essence can be interchanged with essential nature.
Movement. Mayhem. Meditation.
What does any of it have to do with naturalness?
Let’s find out.
With a background in fitness, Giulia has always followed an active lifestyle – keeping her body moving has always been her number one goal. A healthy and fit daily routine led her to discover her love of yoga, as the fundamentals of her yoga practice allowed a deeper connection to her body as well as her mind.
After finding her place on the mat, Giulia took the decision to undertake her 200hr teacher training at The Wellness Connection in Cape Town, which ignited a deep passion for the world of yoga anatomy. Giulia’s classes not only focus on strength building and alignment but also touch on a softer side of connection through breath to movement, allowing the mind to reconnect with the body.
Giulia shares : “Through my experience of teaching, I have discovered the beauty of slow progression through movement and dedication to practice. Focusing on each and every student’s journey in their own practice and guiding them through transitions to learn to be more curious about their own body. Finding contentment with where they are, while still building strength mentally and physically. I will forever be a student myself, learning and growing. That is the journey of Yoga.”
You can look forward to a strong and dynamic flow, focusing on building strength and discovering new ways to move the body in her classes. She always brings in a sense of play and freedom into her classes and something new, allowing students to find a deeper connection to their practice and feel a sense of gratitude for the practice of Yoga.
