Is the balance of power changing between—and within—the Republican and Democratic parties? Are these parties' ideologies, electoral coalitions, and foreign relations shifting? What can history tell us about the potential direction of these changes?
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the public are invited to a discussion of these questions featuring panelists Daniel McCarthy, editor of Modern Age: A Conservative Review; Deirdre McCloskey, a libertarian economist who teaches at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Elizabeth Tandy Shermer, a progressive historian who teaches at Loyola University Chicago; and Marco Torres, a socialist historian writing his dissertation at the University of Chicago. A lively audience Q&A will follow these speakers' remarks.
This panel is taking place as part of the Between Past & Future event series, a series co-sponsored by the Ronald Williams Library and the History Department. Between Past & Future events feature informed speakers with differing perspectives on controversial topics at the intersection of history and politics. For additional information, contact Ed Remus, Social Sciences Librarian, at [email protected].
