We had a great time at the PRSA Midwest District Conference in Bloomington! Some highlights include:
- Meeting with alumnus Jason Schumann
- Connecting with PR professionals such as Dave Neuger and communications professionals from the Mall of America
- Exploring the MOA and Nickelodeon Universe
- Meeting Will, the most dapper therapy dog we have ever met

Happy Day 2! Today’s speakers are Mitch and Nate! Mitch works at Wanzek as a Training and Development Manager at Wanzek. He will be discussing teamwork and collaboration in the office. We also have the Senior Account Executive from Padilla, Nate, talking about how you can work your way up in a job.

It's Day One of our Path to Profession event! Check out these videos from our speakers, Ava and Ethan! Ava is a Social Media Coordinator at Flint Group and is sharing about how to get started at an agency and networking. Ethan is a communications coordinator from the Arts partnership presenting on keeping your social media spaces presentable!

Next we have Nate Gilbraith is a member of Padilla’s healthcare practice. In his role, Nate is involved in client services, content creation, issues management and media relations. Nate earned his bachelor’s in integrated advertising and public relations from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). While attending MSUM, Nate was heavily involved in the school’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter. He even served as the president of the chapter his senior year. He is still involved with Minnesota Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) today where he serves as the co-chair on the Student Relations Committee.

Our next speaker, Ethan Mickelson is a young PR professional with ten years of writing experience. Currently, he manages communications strategy for The Arts Partnership, a local arts nonprofit, and includes weekly contributions to the Life section in The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

A farm kid for life with an upbringing on books, gardening and outdoor adventures, Ethan’s first writing experiences started in his hometown, Rolla, North Dakota and extend into his time studying at North Dakota State University - graduating in 2018 - and into his professional career today.

Ethan has been published locally by The Forum, Fargo Underground, Fargo Monthly , Midwest Nest and regionally by West Fargo Pioneer, Dickinson Press, Jamestown Sun, Grand Forks Herald and The Growler Magazine.

Our second speaker in our series, Mitch Johnson works at Wanzek Construction as the Corporate Training Manager and has over 10 years of experience in the Learning and Development field. He is not only a L&D guru and culture champion, but also a dog lover. He has two wonderful doggo’s, Billy and Oscar. He is a 2017 graduate from the Chamber of Commerce’s Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Leadership program. Additionally, he serves as the Director of Program for North Dakota Leadership Seminar, Vice Chair of Experience Fargo Moorhead West Fargo, and serves on a variety of other local committees. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education in Organizational Development through Grand Canyon University. Mitch loves to spend his time outdoors, hiking, enjoying the lakes, snowboarding, and running.

In her role as social media coordinator, Ava Lipari helps clients share their brand stories on social media. Ava graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. After doing social (zocial) media for Zorbaz, she came to Flint Group in 2020.

Outside of work, Ava’s hobbies include watching Netflix, TikTok and other pandemic-related indoor activities. Currently, her personal goals include becoming a dog owner and getting back to traveling post-pandemic.

MSUM’s PRSSA Chapter works to help students gain skills and knowledge in public relations! We build connections, explore careers, and promote events to increase hands-on experience. We also work with current public relations professionals to expand our knowledge of real-life situations.

Today, all month long, and forever MSUM PRSSA honors all the strong women in the PR industry and beyond. Nobody can do it like a woman can!

On the last day of Black History Month, MSUM PRSSA honors Bayard Rustin, organizer of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” Speech. During his lifetime, he was known to have lead movements in civil rights, gay rights, socialism, and non-violence. What a legacy he holds.
