It is with great sadness that we need to announce that Downtown is closing. We are so thankful for your support, we love this community and it’s heartbreaking to say goodbye.
Our last day open will be this Sunday 27 August.
We are deeply grateful for you, our members, and for all of your support over the past few years.
Even though the studio is busy now, the fact is the effects of Covid set the business back enormously, we tried our best to rebuild and despite an incredible recovery, it hasn’t been enough, and it’s not sustainable. We are truly sorry this is so sudden. We would have liked to have had more time.
We are proud of what we have created. We put our hearts into building something beautiful, radical, accepting, where everyone could be themselves, be valued, and move freely.
Thank you to our brilliant team, and all of the teachers and staff over the past 5 years. Thank you to every person who has been part of this community.
We hope that while this studio will end: the ideas, the energy, the values, and the differences we have made will be lasting.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in to celebrate our final days. Please be kind to our teachers this week and direct any questions via email [email protected]
What you need to know:
- Final day open is Sunday 27 August
- All membership payments have been stopped from today
- If you had a payment due to go through today or later in the week and you want to attend until Sunday please email us so we can process a partial payment (depending on your membership)
- We will be running an additional community class on Sunday, 10am Vinyasa with Tea and will look at adding extra classes if needed
- We will be sharing where you can find your favourite teachers after we close
- Bring a buddy will not be available this week because we need to prioritise members getting into classes
- We are selling clinical Pilates equipment, please get in touch if you are interested in any
We are truly so sorry this beautiful thing is ending.
I am so proud of the space and community we created.
We will miss this, but we will truly miss you.

Want to become a GREAT Pilates Instructor? Enrol our Mat Pilates Instructor Training this November.
Developed over three decades by physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals. The STOTT PILATES Intensive Mat Plus course covers Mat Pilates exercises in depth with a complete breakdown, including goals, modifications, muscular emphasis, movement sequencing, so appropriate programming and effective cueing can be made for each client.
The course presents how to teach the Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Matwork repertoire safely and effectively to a range of clients in both private and group settings. Learn a framework to creating intelligent and mindful exercise which serves as the foundation for tailored exercise programming. The approach is based on the STOTT PILATES Principles which incorporate recognised movement patterns and qualities and integrate the fascial system.
Our goal is to set you up for success as a Pilates teacher. Along with your face to face course hours you can use Downtown Studio's facilities for practice teaching, self practice and observation.

Sarah’s (she/her) classes focus on body awareness and simply enjoying movement. Her passion for the human body is undoubted. After a serious dance injury, she turned to pilates to aid in recovery and found a renewed love for movement. She believes practicing pilates goes beyond the superficial and offers a challenging and playful class for all bodies.

✨ Caty Harrel | Yoga ✨
Caty’s (she/her) love for mindful movement began in 2013 when a collection of injuries (finally) led her to try Yoga. Despite everything about it feeling challenging and foreign, something about the experience elicited a shift, and she knew she would be back. That ‘something’ was how powerful connecting breath and movement can be.
Caty’s classes are conversational; she will ask you what you notice in certain shapes as a prompt for you to check in with your body acknowledging that it is the most important relationship you will ever have. She is interested in breaking down poses to understand the ‘why’ and then building them back up in layers.
She is passionate about bringing movement, and the ability to move well, to everyone. She has never been able to take life too seriously, so she will most likely drop a few (terrible) Dad jokes in to the class. Who is she kidding; there will be several.
Caty is fascinated with the human body and has thrown herself in to continuing study, becoming a Registered Yoga Detour Instructor and Functional Range Conditioning mobility training to name a few. Caty completed her Yin Yoga training and 200hr Vinyasa in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Iliana (she/her) is a yoga and meditation teacher, actor and creative arts therapist in-training. She specialises in guiding Yin, Vinyasa, Prenatal, Preparation for Childbirthing, Postnatal Yoga, Breathwork and Reiki Meditation. Her classes are poetic, motivating and soulful. Iliana has worked with diverse populations in New York City and Melbourne, in traditional and non-traditional settings such as corporate wellness, yoga studios, reform and rehabilitation systems, and live theatre. Her unique method and style of teaching combines embodied intelligence, functional movement and creative interconnectedness. Iliana's work is to share how it feels to live in presence, in practical and meaningful ways.

As a practicing herbalist, Ami’s classes are crafted with seasonal energies in mind to bring you into deeper relation and reciprocity with natural ecologies.
