Since our inception in 1992, the BID’s mission has been to improve the King Drive District by fostering a culture that enjoys a trendy and authentic retail experience while attracting businesses who embrace the commitment to hard work and strong character that the area was founded on. In the past 15 years there has been over $200 million of new development in the BID.

Happy fall! School is in session, and daycares are ALWAYS in session. During October, we want to give a special shout-out to our BID-located daycares, including Auntie Fe Fe Child Development Center, BHLA, Dreamland Child Care 4, Four Seasons Early Learning Center, Leading Paths Child Development Center, Libby’s Fun House Pristine Childcare. Each of these BID childcare facilities aims to provide a safe environment where children can socialize and play with children their age and participate in both fun and educational activities daily. We are celebrating Black Owned Business Month throughout the month of August by highlighting black owned businesses in our Main Street communities! Today we are recognizing JenGer Doll Medical Wigs and Accessories in King Drive Is in Milwaukee. Jennifer Brown, owner of JenGer Doll Medical Wigs and Accessories, is currently renovating her storefront in the King Drive district. Once complete she will provide specially designed wigs for patients who sugger hair loss due to medical treatment. In addition, she is working towards both Medicare and Medicaid reimburesment, as well as private pay. Her goal is to bring confidence to her customers by providing them with education and options.

Join us today Thursday, August 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm, Dr. Boyce, author of 10 Commandments of Black Economic Power, will be hosting a fireside chat with Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II to discuss his book and the guidelines of economic Black power.

Alderman Stamper said the FREE Hip-Hop Week MKE event will feature a discussion with Dr. Boyce about his book and the concepts in it, as well as a question-and-answer session with the community. There will be a book signing and meet-and-greet afterward for anyone interested.

“Dr. Boyce’s work is inspirational and especially helpful for any members of the Black community looking to expand their economic literacy and power,” Alderman Stamper said. “I encourage all interested residents to join this important conversation.”
