Valko BJJ Chicago

ANNOUNCEMENT: Coming July, 2024, Valko Jiu-Jitsu Studio, 2748 W. Montrose (intersection of Montrose & California). The concept behind this location is to be a smaller, “neighborhood”-style Jiu-Jitsu school. Class will be mostly kids and adult fundamentals, and a few special sessions mixed in. Class will be taught by Jay, Jose and Rex. Valko BJJ downtown will continue as normal. More details coming in the following weeks.

Saturday, Nov 11th, no class or open mat. Seminar with Eduardo DeLima at 11am followed by our year-end belt promotion.

Congrats to our competitors who went out to Pans this weekend. We had several bronze medals and good performances in deep divisions. *edit* Gwen is coming back to Chicago with a gold medal in her division and a silver in absolute.

Belt promotion pics 12/17/22. Thanks Jared! 20 blue belts, 13 purple, 5 brown, 6 black.

Thank you to all our teammates, instructors, friends and supporters of the school for another year in the books. Our 15th year! Congratulations to all the new belts. I’ve now promoted 30 black belts. One theme that came up again and again during speeches was that it’s the journey, not the destination (easy to say once you get your black belt!). We also got to hear how different the journeys can be, but what’s consistent is the hard work and the people that you meet. Jiujitsu is an individual sport that can’t be done alone.
I’m also very excited to have a new partner in the business. A young lion, hungry and talented, a skilled competitor and instructor eager to make his mark both in the arena and in the coaching corner. Welcome aboard José Mazariegos, looking forward to growing the school with you.

Our annual belt promotion and holiday party will be Saturday, Dec 17th.

Thanks everyone who came to our belt promotion yesterday, it was our first group promotion in almost two years. I had the privilege of promoting four more black belts, bringing it up to 23 black belts total that I’ve been fortunate to promote over the years. I can’t express how much I appreciate the support and hard work of our friends and teammates, especially the last couple of difficult pandemic years.

This Saturday is our annual belt promotion & holiday party. 11am & 9pm, respectively. No class Saturday or Sunday.
