This award will be provided to one BSW and one MSW student at the NASW Texas Social Work Advocacy Day (SWAD) 2024. Students are asked to self-nominate and provide a brief description of an advocacy effort they have undertaken to make a change at a local, state, or national level. Exciting news! The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has officially opened the application period for the Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program. This program aims to support mental health experts in serving Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas, helping individuals, groups, and families with their mental health challenges. Eligible applicants can receive loan repayments of up to $16,000, depending on their profession.

Happy Tuesday, CHS Miners! ⛏ We're pleased to share good news today. Professor Emeritus Mark Lusk (Dept. of Social Work) and his colleagues in Europe, Melinda Madew (Germany) and Marcin Boryczko (Poland) have published a book, Decolonized Approaches to Human Rights and Social Work, with Springer Nature (Switzerland). The edited volume summarizes the challenges of international social work and human rights in a post-colonial world. Contributors from the global south and north discuss the regional issues social workers face in advancing human rights. UTEP Social Work faculty Erica Balderrama, Araceli Garcia and Eva Moya authored the chapter on decolonized approaches to human rights in the United States.
